This is a bachelor's home in Greensboro that began as a complete blank slate. To complement his own personal taste for rich, earthy colors and textures I began on the dining room ceiling with a textured paint finish. After applying a texture resembling old stucco, I applied a two color parchment finish of golden sienna and red earth colors overglazed with a deep umber wash. Goldleaf was applied to the surrounding molding to accent the warm and rustic finish. The walls there as well as the foyer received a single color parchment finish that I tinted specifically to connect the dining room ceiling to the walls and then to the tiled floor to create a warm backdrop for his furniture and fixtures.
The kitchen and living room were actually one large space. Keeping in mind the palette already established in the first two rooms of the house, I created a more colorful finish using a soft crimson and woody green over a cream basecoat with a thin overglaze. With random accents of gold acrylic throughout to catch the eye in different areas, coupled with the goldleaf applied to columns in the kitchen and dining room, this finish is both classic and playful.
