This piece is rather special. This is a landscape I painted in Venetian plaster on panel for a Raleigh family for their home in Wilmington. After visiting their home and taking pictures of the Intracoastal Waterway and the rest of the surrounding land from their roof, I sketched out this almost panoramic depiction of the Waterway, the Inlet, and the Atlantic which border their property. After thinning the Venetian plaster to a paintable consistency, I worked quickly adding layer after layer of color until I was happy with the results. This painting is not just a depiction of their land in Wilmington–after careful selection I applied select family photos to the panel to create a family portrait in the landscape painting, forever connecting this family to their beloved Wilmington.
This is a technique I used in the landscapes I paint for gallery exhibitions and it was a great opportunity to apply it in this way for a client.
When we saw your talent at the art show last fall, we knew we had to have you create something personalized for us. The results are wonderful, you have captured the landscape outside our new home and the addition of the various portraits makes it a perfect family heirloom. I suspect that it will become more treasured with every passing year!-Lynn H. Sears
